There are few things in life that you are truly prepared for. A baby is usually found among these things. Although wonderful, exciting and fulfilling, as a dad you are never ready to start using baby-talk. There are so many things that become part of your new lexicon that weren't there before. Today is one of those days where new phrases were added.
Have you ever had to call a restaurant and ask if you left something there? This can be embarrassing all by itself. Now imagine that you had to call a restaurant and ask if they have found a rubber giraffe! Layla loves her giraffe, apparently named Sofie (I changed it to Herbie), and it makes her so happy. (It truly is the little things in life.) Well my wife and I have been looking for this damn thing for the better part of a half hour, and I looked everywhere. I checked the car seat, the car, the bathroom and various other places throughout the house, and finally I had to make the dreaded call. THE RESTAURANT!
It was the first time we took her out without my entire family being present, and now we realize that I lost the damn giraffe!! Everyone was so nice, and despite being asked about our baby (often referred to as "him") we had a great time. But now, it's happened. I had to call and ask for a very strange object. As I called the manager answered the phone, and after I asked about the rubber giraffe, I was asked, and I quote, "Am I on Punked?" ...I wanted to die. I told her no, and she actually asked someone about Herbie. They all said they knew who's it was, but that there was no giraffe to be found. Now mortified, and honestly concerned, I began to look around again.
The things we do for our children! The funny part is, she'll never remember this event!
I love my daughter!
p.s. We found the giraffe under a blanket. Figures!
